Windows 365 Cloud PC

I partnered with our product and marketing teams to tell the story of Windows 365’s cloud PC solution. The film takes us on a journey of discovering this new platform, the features and possibilities of the Cloud and the familiar Windows experience available at the user’s fingertips.

Imagine the possibilities of having access to a totally configurable and powerful PC that can be streamed effortlessly to any device, anywhere. Ease, fluidity, security, and power were all characteristics that needed to be expressed through our designs.

We sought to make a clear, informative film that expressed these new features while maintaining an abstract, beautiful world. We wanted to avoid obvious visual metaphors but still convey some sense of cloud-like qualities. The end result is a visualization of the experience of using Windows Cloud PC in a way that feels exciting and fresh, but also familiar.

Every iconic animation detail and transition was engineered to help subjectively amplify the idea of Windows in the Cloud. Here for instance, the layered sheets that exhibited animated dots akin to cloud connectivity metaphors were also aimed at speaking to the Windowing capabilities of the OS.

Hybrid Windows for a hybrid world.

As always, the environment’ designs were just as critical to the story. We used soft materials and forms as a way to amplify cloud-related metaphors. Below are other environment explorations we didn’t pursue further.

Thank you!

Thanks to my colleagues, product leaders at Microsoft for making this product a reality. I’d like to highlight Alex Fromm, Jeff Fong, Terry Kirkwood. I am also appreciative of Douglas Montague and our marketing team for inviting me to partner in the direction of this release.

A massive thanks to our friends at Studio Tendril and Zelig Sound for their commitment to pushing the finesse of this UX film to its limit.
