Microsoft Pride Campaign 2021

For many years Microsoft has been an ally of the LGBTQIA+ community and joins the global celebration during the month of June. As product leaders, we began looking for opportunities to amplify this celebration directly in product. These are are reinterpreted flag designs I provided creative direction for in the 2021 celebration.

This reinterpretation of the iconic rainbow flag was one of the most popular designs during this year’s event.

Our concept for the artworks was based on the notion that every human is unique and authentically beautiful. With such concept, we thought that basing the visuals on nature-inspired elements could yield some inspiring new looks.

Microsoft Edge was the hero experience in this year’s campaign. To use these theme add-ons, head over here.

In addition to static backgrounds for both Microsoft Teams and Skype, we also designed a custom Together Mode scene to be used in both apps (seen here on the right).

2020 Campaign

The year before we worked to highlight many investments from different product groups. Below are two animations I made to showcase the Pride animations in the OneDrive mobile app, and the library of images available as Microsoft Teams backgrounds.

Thank you!

I’d like to thank all of my product partners for prioritizing this work, and also praise the Microsoft brand team for ensuring Microsoft Pride receives the attention it deserves, growing in adoption and scale each year.

Thanks also to the amazing digital artists that I partnered with on this one: Bryce Walhof, Zachary Hazen and Conor Rafferty.
